Who we are

The London and District Distress Centre was established in 1968 by the Council of Churches of the Inner City of London.  There was concern about the disturbing number of suicides within the area and the lack of immediate resources in the City of London.  With the assistance of lay volunteers, professionals, and the Council of Churches, a non-profit volunteer organization was founded.  These volunteers were trained to respond to the needs of those in distress by means of short-term telephone crisis intervention

The London and District Distress Centre is a community-based agency that provides individuals in need with short-term empathetic listening and confidential telephone support, operated 24 hours a day by highly trained and caring volunteers. We are here to listen. Our highly trained and dedicated base of volunteers provide telephone support, resources and problem solving skills, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We are a member agency of the United Way of London and Middlesex and apprecaite their financial and partnership supports.
